Matthew McDonald, a senior at Cosumnes Oaks High in California, won the Divison 2 boys varsity race at the subsections of the CIF-Sac-Joaquin Section at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds at Frogtown in Angels Camp. McDonald clocked 15:38.4 on the 3-mile raincourse layout to advance to the Nov. 12 section final at the Willow Hills course in Folsom. Cosumnes Oaks placed 12th, seven points away from qualifying for the section championship race as a team.
